The end of 2025 saw a flurry of five astrophotography trips, including some incredible Northern Lights displays.
The first of these was a local trip for me, to Woodbury Common, close to Exeter. Not the darkest of skies here, but as an astrophotographer, all dark skies that have stars have interest and photographic possibility. The landscape of Woodbury Common is also incredibly interesting. Moorland-like, with some stunning-looking trees!
Fast forward two days, and I explored another new area localish to Exeter, called Killerton. A countryside park-like location with northerly composition potential, which would be interesting for any Northern Lights activity. This was mostly a scouting and exploring-type trip. It was a great area to explore.
Later in November, I had a wonderful trip to Meldon Reservoir on Dartmoor and was treated to an unexpected display of the Northern Lights from Black Tor, before capturing some images of Orion over the reservoir.
My final shoot of 2025 was an incredible light show! I took a dash to Mardon Stone Circle on the eastern edge of Dartmoor after reading about the promising Aurora forecast. I set my camera on a timelapse and sat back and enjoyed the display.
The structure of the aurora changed a lot throughout the night, which was fascinating to see.
